Magpie Privacy Policy

1. What Magpie is

Magpie is a dating app. It helps you understand yourself through reflective conversation and builds a living portrait based on what you choose to share. It then uses that portrait to find deeply compatible matches.

2. Data we collect

• An anonymous device-generated identifier stored on your device so the app can keep your history without asking you to create an account.
• Conversation messages that you type into the app.
• Your portrait, generated from your conversations.
• Your soulmate profile (display name, age, gender, preferences) if you choose to set one up.
• Direct messages between you and your matches.
• Basic usage data such as message activity and last active time.

3. How we use your data

• To generate AI responses during conversation.
• To build and update your portrait.
• To evaluate compatibility and generate matches.
• To facilitate direct messaging between matched users.
• To preserve continuity across conversations on your device.
• To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

4. Third-party AI provider

Your conversation messages are processed by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, to generate responses and help synthesize your portrait.

Anthropic states that, by default, inputs and outputs from commercial products such as the Anthropic API are not used to train its models unless the customer explicitly opts in or provides feedback for that purpose.

5. Data storage and retention

Application data is stored in Neon Postgres and served through Cloudflare Workers.

• Conversations persist until you delete them.
• Your portrait persists until you delete your data.
• Match data and messages persist until you delete your data.

6. What matches see

Your portrait is never shared with other users. Matches see only your display name and a compatibility story. Your conversation history and psychological analysis remain completely private.

7. Your rights and choices

• Access: you can request a copy of your data.
• Deletion: use the in-app Delete My Data action or email us to request deletion.
• Portability: you can request an export of your data.

8. CCPA notice

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not share your data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

9. Children

Magpie is not intended for children under 13.

10. Website analytics

The public Magpie website may use Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate traffic and performance measurement. Cloudflare describes this as a privacy-first analytics product.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this page as the product evolves. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision.
